The First Golden Staff (more history)

Manko Qhapaq and Mama Oqllo, the first Inkas and beloved children of Father Sun, set out on an epic journey to find the right place to start a new civilization for future Children of the Sun. Like all good parents, Father Sun wanted to give His offspring some support while leaving them free and independent. The Great Father, remembering the Golden Tear He shed on Mother Earth eons before, had another golden gift in mind. He offered Mama Oqllo and Manko Qhapaq a Golden Staff, but nary a word of instruction.

The two original Children of the Sun, trusting the voice of their inner selves, knew that the location for the new civilization they were destined to establish would be revealed when the pointed end of the Staff slipped easily into the ground. Cast from the ancient Fiery Tear shed by their father so long ago, the golden walking stick journeyed with Manko and Mama high and low throughout the new territory. The first Inkas walked and looked, walked and looked, and every once in a while they would ask each other hopefully, “Is it here?” and try to plant the Staff into the ground. This happened many times and many times the ground and the Staff would not come together.

But they did not despair. They had the presence and power of the Golden Staff and the blessings of Father Sun. Mama Oqllo and Manko Qhapaq knew that if they had faith, and if they stuck the Staff into the Earth enough times, eventually they would discover a place of destiny for their people. After many days and many nights with the Golden Staff, the Children of the Sun received the answer for which they longed. “Yes, yes! This is the place,” the Staff and the Earth seemed to say as they slipped easily into and around each other.

.

Manko and Mama were very excited. They had been told that at this very spot the radiating power of the Spirit of the Sun and the receptive love of the Spirit of the Earth would come together in a special, new way. The prophecy went on to say that this union would create a vortex of fertile, transformational energy that would affect beings far and wide. Catalyzed by the spark of Mama’s and Manko’s loving intention and the efforts of the Golden Staff, this dynamic energy was to be used by the Inka Rulers for the good of all Inka people. From the city of Cuzco, “the navel of the Great Mother,” a grand civilization, larger than the Roman Empire, was built.

Many Inka Rulers governed with wise, caring strength for hundreds of years. All too soon, however, the Golden Inka Staff was taken and melted by conquering armies from distant lands and the Inka Empire crumbled in a few short years of disease and war.

Today humanity awaits another Golden Tear of the Sun and hopes a fiery drop of love will bring beauty, balance, and unity to the Great Mother and all her children. People are calling for the return of the Golden Staff to point the way toward a new human destiny of harmony, joy, cooperation, fulfillment, and love. Many believe that a new Golden Staff can help bring a new kind of human, a new way of being, and a Golden Era for humanity and all our relations.
